Tailor Toyo’s ‘Special Edition’ jacket is an authentic reproduction of the sukajyan, a symbolic garment from post-war Japan. The spinning and density of the acetate rayon fabric is mimicked in comparison to its vintage predecessor. Dying methods used for the fabric are also imitated to replicate the fading of color with age. The wool rib has the same standards as the original product, using a vintage flat-knitting machine. In order to attain a complete reproduction, 50-year-old vintage fastening machines are used to attach reversible zippers onto the jackets with cotton zipper tapes. Tailor Toyo went to such extent to reproduce tags and labels of Kosho & Co. as well. The front and back panel of the jacket is designed using a vintage embroidery machine, all hand sewn by individual craftsmen.
